Another day with good movement in the morning - waves of WESTERN TANAGERS constantly moving through - usually 6-8 birds at a time - tally 19 as of 10:25 am. There were 2 WESTERN WOOD-PEWEES, 1 WESTERN KINGBIRD, 1 WARBLING VIREO, 1 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, 1 YELLOW WARBLERS, 2 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, 1 WILSON'S WARBLER, 2 BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, 2 HOODED ORIOLES and 1 LAZULI BUNTING. The surprise bird of the morning was a chunky, long tailed bird with an olive-green back and tail behind the General’s Residence - I couldn't come up with a species other than GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE (a HOODED ORIOLE would have been more slender and even though I only glimpsed the bird from the back flying away, I should have seen the long curved bill if it had been a Hooded Oriole). It disappeared around the blackberry bushes and couldn’t be found again.
