Subject: [Ohio-birds] Big Island Wildlife Area and Old Sunbury Road

Took another dayfrom my home turf and headed north to bird. A visit to Big Island Wildlife Areain Marion County produced an interesting array of species. By far my favoritewere the show the Bobolinks put on at Herr Road. There were about 15 and theywere very active, flying about and perching on snags in the field. Many EasternMeadowlarks were also present. Later along LaRue-Prospect Road we locatedseveral Common Moorhens and three Redhead Ducks. Otherwise, we only located thenormal suspects for the area. Cam Lee’s reports on ebird are a good way to seewhat is happening at Big Island.

On the way homewe stopped at The Hoover Nature Preserve to monitor Old Sunbury Road forProthonotary Warblers. Being very obliging, five cooperated and came in closeto show off their bright spring plumage and to sing. So far the numbers at thepreserve are looking very good.
