Subject: [AZNMbirds] Albuquerque Today -- North Diversion Channel Outflow
All the recent rain has regenerated the ephemeral lake at the outflow,
which moves the runoff from the city toward the Rio Grande. 25 species
total today, with 6 species of duck (including 16 Mallard ducklings
swimming along with 2 females), 2 adult Canada Geese with 3 goslings, a few
Ibis, Avocets, Least and Spotted Sandpipers. Bird of the day was the
previously reported Eared Grebe. Creature of the day was a toss-up between
a stray dog chasing ducks up and down the (shallow) lake, and 3 large
snapping turtles (which I hope don't make snacks of the ducklings). Since
the rainwater that ends up here flows from all over the city, there was a
high count (for me) of 20 shopping carts deposited in the lake, plus some
small pieces of furniture and a few tires. Lovely.
