I did a short walk in woods near Lone Star Lake this mid-morning - heard 3 Wood Thrushes and a few warblers (nothing notable) - mostly nesting birds Orioles, Vireos etc. Felt like its doner. I know that some nearby spots have had a decent or very good migration, but Burcham has never been thinner - many common migrants numerous & loud singers have not been there on my morning walks
But received this message this morning from a former student & good friend who teaches at A&M in College Station, TX and lives in an area not far from campus - these birds came through his backyard yesterday
You may be getting more birds in Lawrence soon. As mentioned previously, migration seemed slow this year. We also have been having more rainy and stormy days recently, especially last week. However, on Sunday morning I had the following birds around my house: white-eyed, red-eyed and yellow-throated vireos, mourning, magnolia, yellow, chestnut-sided, black-throated green, wilsons warblers and common yellowthroat and several other more common birds. I also went out and saw the Pacific Loon on Friday.
Of course, if there is another wave coming, they may flyover with warm southerly winds this week....
Whatever I'm grateful to be walking & have enjoyed immensely the common visitors in their colorful spring plumage & territorial & social notes
