While doing Bald Eagle nest surveys today with Chris Martin and Randy Langer (on Randy's boat) we came across an incredible gathering of Bonaparte's Gulls north of Rattlesnake Island. We saw at least 150 Bonaparte's all moving west low over the water in a steady stream. My guess is there were many more than that and we were just seeing a snapshot of a huge movement.
