The City list for 2025 for San Francisco crept up by 14 species in April, bringing us to 221 species – the lowest annual total through April since 2019. The number of new April species was six below our average. New species for the month were Short-eared Owl , Chipping Sparrow, Black-headed Grosbeak, Swainson's Thrush, Lark Sparrow, Hammond's Flycatcher, Cassin's Vireo, Lesser Yellowlegs, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Lazuli Bunting, Ash-throated Flycatcher, Harlequin Duck, Lawrence's Goldfinch, and Western Wood-Pewee.
