Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Black Swifts evening flight, Pacific Beach — May 12, 2025
I happened to be out on my back lawn this evening, doing my doggy chores with head down looking intently at the lawn, when I heard a distinctive swift chitter overhead. Looked up and flock of 13 BLACK SWIFT circling just few hundred feet up over my house! They were idling about loosely, some circling, after a minute they switched back to more earnest travel mode and took off on a beeline north straight towards the Mt Soledad antennas. Time seen 6:27 pm, out of sight by 6:29 pm.

Noted in the eBird alerts today that Paul Lehman also saw 3 today in the morning in Point Loma.

Gary Nunn,
Pacific Beach

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
