Weather: Mostly cloudy with temps reaching a high of 76F. Winds started as SE, then switched to NE in the late morning. Around 1pm the winds switched back to SE as the storm front moved in. It started to rain at 2pm.
Raptor Observations: Today was a fun day with an unexpected number of birds. By the time the rain came at 2pm, we had a total of 620 raptors. Broad-winged Hawks were the most abundant species totaling 349. The day total for Turkey Vultures was 199. Other species mixed in with the Broad-wings and vultures were Red-tailed Hawks (28), Bald Eagles (19), and Sharp-shinned hawks (13). The excitement for the day came early with a light morph Rough-legged Hawk that flew over the platform!
Non-raptor Observations: Several Tennessee Warblers were singing from the trees around the platform. Bobolinks continue to serenade us from the surrounding trees as well. 2 American Pipits flew over the platform in the late morning.
Predictions: Tomorrow will have showers in the morning, then be cloudy in the afternoon. High near 65F. Winds ESE at 10-20mph. There could be another flight similar to today, but birds are hard to predict, so there also could be very little. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Maili Waters (<mailirwaters...>) Braddock Bay information may be found at: http://www.bbrr.org/
