Weather: Cloudy skies with ENE wind for the start of the watch, changing to SSW during the 11:00 hour. During the last 30 minutes there were only 7 TV's, and the sky became empty from 12:10PM - 12:30PM. Heavy dark clouds began to appear @ 12:00 PM confirming the Weather Radar report showing rain on its way from Erie PA.
Raptor Observations: Turkey Vultures and a small number of raptors were observed from Rt 5 to Rt 20. TV's were slightly above tree level at start of the watch due to wind conditions. Ideal SSW wind was present for the last 90 minutes ahead of the incoming rain. Only 7 TV's came through during the last 30 minutes. By 12:10, the flight came to a complete halt. The Watch was not manned from 10:15 - 11:00 AM, as I had another commitment in Westfield and there were no other observers or volunteers present.
Non-raptor Observations: Best hour was 11 - 12 AM with a count of 95 TV's, 2 RT's, 3 SS, 1AK, 2 BW, and 1 BE. There were hundreds of Blue Jays migrating through Sites 1A and 1B. 3 Local Bald Eagles were observed in flight to and from the escarpment to the Lake.
Predictions: The forecast for Wednesday 05/14/2025: Overcast. 15% chance of a rain shower. High 71F. SE wind at 10 to 20 mph is predicted for most of the day. With these conditions, a modest flight could emerge. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Michael Ceci (<michael.ceci541...>) Ripley Hawk Watch information may be found at: www.facebook.com/groups/3193820734258889/
