Weather: The day started out cloudy and warm with temps in the high 60s/low 70s, and SW winds at 5-10mph. At 1pm a thunderstorm rolled in and lasted an hour. After the rain, it was cloudy with west winds at 20-25mph and the temps dropped into the mid/low 60s.
Raptor Observations: Today was a fun day with a lot of weather changes. Before the rain hit, just over 550 birds passed over the platform. After the storm, another 375 birds flew over. The majority of the birds today were very high in the sky proving to be a challenge to spot. Broad-winged Hawks the most abundant species with a total of 733. Turkey Vultures seemed to come in waves, totaling 102 for the day. For the fourth day in a row, Bald Eagles were the third most abundant species with a total of 38. One of the best things about the day was watching the weather changes. From calm and warm in the morning, to thunderstorms mid day, to cooler temps and stronger wind in the afternoon, there was never a dull moment.
Non-raptor Observations: 5 Sandhill Cranes, several Green Herons, 5 Lesser Yellowlegs, several Common Nighthawks, 1 Canada Warbler.
Predictions: Tomorrow will have rain showers early with increasing winds and cloudy skies later in the day. High 56F. Winds W at 20-30mph. There could be some movement but it will depend on the rain and wind strength. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Maili Waters (<mailirwaters...>) Braddock Bay information may be found at: http://www.bbrr.org/
