Some online sleuthing by Nick Thorpe turned up photos of a Laysan Albatross taken 10 miles off La Jolla by a Wild Pacific Whale Watch boat this past Saturday the 19th--while the rest of us were on a pelagic trip out at the 30-Mile Bank and The Corner at that same moment. We actually heard a radio transmission at that time from another ship that simply said "Laysan Albatross" but with no follow-up, which left us scratching our heads. Until now.
Yesterday, the 21st, Matt. S. photo'd a juvenile Lesser Yellowlegs bordering the Salt Works, which sets a new all-time early arrival date for that age-class by five days.
Today, the 22nd, the two one-year-old Common Terns continue with the White-winged Tern in the early AM at and near the "oyster balls" off the J Street parking lot; and I also had an FOS slightly early arrival migrant Western Kingbird at the TRV Community Gardens.
