Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] White-winged Tern and Black Tern
I took a stool out into the peninsula at about 9:30 this morning, and just
sat. Black Tern was present but very distant when I arrived. Disappeared
about 11:15. White-winged Tern arrived about 10:45, very distant.
Disappeared about 11:15. As the tide rose, the birds got closer. Around
11am both terns foraged briefly over the closest grass south of the
peninsula. The total time spent relatively close to us was about 5 minutes,
but better looks than I have had from J street.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
