Subject: [AZNMbirds] San Pedro House Birding Walk
Four locals walked the San Pedro trails this morning and recorded 48 species. We encountered a good mix of year-round resident species and summer breeding species along with an increase in migrating species heading south. Two of the best sightings were a Northern Waterthrush taking a bath in the river near signpost 7 and a male Indigo Bunting seen southwest of Kingfisher Pond. We heard three Yellow-billed Cuckoos along the river but never had a look at one. There was an increase in hummingbird activity at the San Pedro House feeders with sightings of Anna’s, Black-chinned, Broad-billed and Rufous Hummingbirds. A juvenile Gray Hawk was observed begging for food along the river. Throughout the walk we heard and saw numerous Lazuli Buntings, Yellow-breasted Chats and Common Yellowthroats.

The Friends of the San Pedro River lead birding walks every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from the San Pedro House located south of Highway 90 just west of the San Pedro River. The walks last about three hours. During August the walks start at 6:00a. Bring your own binoculars, a hat and water.

The next San Pedro House birding walk will be Wednesday, August 27 at 6:00a.
