Subject: [NHBirds] Hoglet
So I’ve been watching the antics of “Hoglet” my uber territorial hummer. I see videos of dozens of hummingbirds sharing feeders together, but, no! Hoglet guards both of my feeders relentlessly. In fact I rarely see him feed as he’s so busy defending. I moved the second feeder farther away from the first to give the other hummers a chance, ha, but he sits halfway between on an apple tree branch so that he can execute a lightning fast “Y” maneuver to chase off any interloper, male or female. This also gives him a perfect vantage point to guard the pollinator flower beds just below.
Fierce, pugnacious little creature.
