Gerry Coffey and I saw large flocks of Common Nighthawks foraging above the river on the Vermont side-some came down the middle of the river. There was one large group of 210 that we saw from 6:35 -6:55 pm-they then moved north up the river. A second group came from the south at about 7:05 and were foraging in the same areas just above the tree line and counted 219. They then slowly headed north along the river. I saw at least 20 come out of the trees on the Vermont side of the Connecticut River. We left at 7:30 so am sure we missed some.
