Observation start time: 09:15:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 5.75 hours
Official Counter: Glen Chretien
Observers: Tom Momeyer
Visitors:
32, a great number for pre-season visitors. Many good questions and many
promising to return. Not a visitor but observer Tom Momeyer was a welcome
sight and great company. Made the season feel ready to begin.
Weather:
After over a decade of counting at the observatory you would think I’d
learn by now not to get caught off guard up here. My arrival was greeted by
45 F and I had to double up on the light clothes that I brought. Luckily
temperature rose to 70 by end of day but the stiff breeze kept the
observers feeling cooler.
Raptor Observations:
First osprey of the season at 1:57 PM and first sharp-shinned hawk at 3:57
PM. 4 broad-winged hawks, one adult made a slow and steady pass at tree top
height for a wonderful view.
Non-raptor Observations:
4 chimney swifts and 3 ruby-throated hummingbirds
Predictions:
Similar weather to today maybe more clouds and maybe less wind. Last
favorable wind until the holiday weekend and on the verge of the official
beginning.
