This morning I birded the Guadalupe River trail from Coleman Road north
to the Chynoweth recharge pond. It was cloudy and pretty quiet until I
found a WILLOW FLYCATCHER just north of Blossom Hill Rd. A HOODED ORIOLE
and 3 YELLOW WARBLERS were seen nearby.
The Willow Flycatcher flew out of an Elderberry bush several times and
gave a few soft whit calls. It had two buffy wing bars and light
undersides. So tiny and quiet it could easily be overlooked. I didn't
see it on my return but the NORTHERN RED BISHOP was in the same tree as
reported on the 26th.
I had a Willow Flycatcher in the same area on this date in 2023 and
another one day later at Almaden Lake last year.
A male WESTERN TANAGER has been to our backyard fountain for the last
three days and a few HOODED ORIOLES remain.
