Last day of questions about when the season starts. Tomorrow marks the
return of our tally board and hawk watch owl, Gina. Welcome Kate!

Weather:
Skies remained sunny for the duration of the count with cloud cover never
exceeding 1/3 of the sky. Winds were lighter than previous days and out of
the North but sometimes variable. Some observers were in tank tops and
shorts by the end of the day.

Raptor Observations:
Migrant birds were difficult to come by in great numbers but we were
greeted by a couple of special visitors. A tall column of turkey vultures
formed over the left side of North Pack and Chuck emphatically asked if
anyone else thought that the top birds were black vultures. Sighting was
confirmed and after a couple of passes the two headed off high and
southerly.

Non-raptor Observations:
Our Eastern towhee returned at the end of day. Nancy quickly spied a
flycatcher species perched on a sparse birch. It stayed long enough to be
identified as a Willow Flycatcher

Monarchs 3 today 12 for the season
Ruby throated humming birds 7 today 15 for the season

Predictions:
More clouds than sun may hinder thermal activity. Winds out of the east can
be troublesome as last year’s counters remember.
