Lots of curious hawkwatchers-to-be, sightseers, and the like on the last day of the holiday weekend.
Weather: Mostly cloudy with 70-100% cloud cover throughout the day. Light winds in the morning became negligible in the afternoon, and very comfortable temps in the mid-lower 70's.
Raptor Observations: A nice steady flow of birds throughout the day. Decent numbers, and a diverse mix. A great way to start the season!
NOHA: 1 ad m, 1 imm, 1 unid
Non-raptor Observations: Red-breasted Nuthatches were a feature, and throughout the day Nashville, Yellow-rumped, and Black-throated Green Warblers were seen. A few Red Crossbills flew over calling throughout the day, singles as far as we could tell, with two occurrences being Type 4s.
Monarchs were abundant with 27 seen throughout the day, bringing our total to 39 for the season. 2 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds flew by, making our season total 17. 2 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
Predictions: Sunny skies, warmer temps, and a light southerly breeze. An optimist might hope birds will use the headwind for lift!
On this day in 2005: Pack Monadnock Raptor Observatory kicks off its first full season of data collection. Brendon Clifford is the official counter. 10 migrants are counted, starting with an American Kestrel and a Merlin.
2025: PMRO celebrates the start of its 21st season of daily data collection and welcomes its 10th full-time official counter, Kate McKay ======================================================================== Report submitted by Nate Marchessault (<nate...>) Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory information may be found at: www.harriscenter.org
