Subject: Re: [OrangeCountyBirding] Pectoral sandpipers and solitary sandpipers upper Santa Ana River
I didn’t update my post, but in the end I tallied what I believe to have been five (not-so) solitary sandpipers. At least three were together immediately downstream from the weir, and there was one well upstream by the bridge. There were also two further downstream from the year, but I could not rule out one of them being from the initial group of three. Solitaries are probably the most “expected” of our unexpected fall shorebirds, but this is definitely the largest number I’ve ever had in the county.

Note that there are several spotted sandpipers in the vicinity of the weir as well; the solitaries were generally either by themselves, with each other, or with the yellowlegs.
