After finishing a bike ride along the Santa Ana River trail I saw Shirley Reynolds and Steve Neely who showed me the very well hidden Pectoral Sandpiper, two of which were found by Sam Bressler in the morning. I returned around 6PM and observed it from the side opposite of the bike trail, where the viewing was much better as Steve suggested. It was still present in the same general vicinity, but would have been invisible from the bike trail side. The lighting was great and I was able to get a very short movie before it flew downstream. I was not able to relocate it. I did see at least 2 (probably more) Spotted Sandpipers but only one Solitary Sandpiper. There may have been more downstream. I believe the water ends well before Taft although there may be water south of Taft.
The movie is here.
