At Elsie Roemer Sanctuary in Alameda Monday, a juvenile Bald Eagle was circling overhead to the south. After posting an eBird checklist with photos of the bird, I heard from Lyla Arum, who has been carrying out an informal fledge watch with other birders at the Bald Eagle nest in Oakland's Mountain View Cemetery. The eagle pictured is apparently an eaglet they call "White Feather," with a prominent pale feather on the left wing. She describes it as a female and the eldest of the recently fledged birds at the nest. The eagle watchers are thrilled to find White Feather ranging over the Bay.
