- Comments: "Continuing. Seen by Conor McMahon and Lynn Scarlett earlier today. Red throat, red on back of head, black and white face, white on the edge of the folded wing. I saw it in a few trees northeast of Stow House. The Red-breasted Sapsucker seemed to be harassing it, so it never stayed long in one spot. See photos."
Red-naped Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus nuchalis) (1)
- Reported Oct 21, 2025 08:19 by Conor McMahon
- Lake Los Carneros Park, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.84975&<ll...>,-119.84975 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S280668241 - Comments: "Seen briefly in Pittosporum at (34.44319, -119.85168). Then chased off by a Red-breasted Sapsucker.
Seen relatively poorly, so clearly a "not Red-breasted" sapsucker, but not sure I saw enough to certainly call it a RNSA vs. YBSA. Leaving it at this species for now pending further information from other observers, since Mark Bright reported seeing and photographing one in approximately this location yesterday. Lynn might have snapped a photo when we were looking at the bird together, so hopefully more certainty soon."

- Comments: "Continuing. Found by others prior to my arrival. Dissappeared into brush just before I got there. South side of lawn between Stow House and Railroad. I found it shortly later by visually searching through brush. Saw constant tail flick and enough of a visual. Grey, black cap. Started vocalizing consistently but Merlin did not recognize it. Heard and then found it a few minutes later in pine just to the west. Decent views through the binoculars but I could not get a good picture."

34.44308, -119.85210
Initially vocal, then quieted down. This area has a lot of berries so hopefully it'll stick around. All-gray mockingbird-sized bird except for black cap (didn't see undertail well). Mewling cat-like call. I think Lynn got a better photo."

Clay-colored Sparrow (Spizella pallida) (1)
- Reported Oct 19, 2025 16:00 by Jake Hager
- Santa Cruz Island--Scorpion Canyon Campgrounds, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.5645389&<ll...>,-119.5645389 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S280681696 - Media: 1 Photo
- Comments: "Having a hard time IDing this bird between clay-colored or Brewer’s—both have been found on the island recently. Not very distinct contrast in coloring/facial markings, but clean pale-gray nape has me leaning clay-colored. No vocalization. Feedback more than welcome!"
