Today, Ray Trent and I led a first ever SCVBA trip in William St Park/Olinder Park with 14 intrepid birders. As hoped for, the park's winter-resident MERLIN zipped overhead and later perched with the morning's catch with long-looks for all. Northern Flickers, Acorn, Nuttall's and a single Hairy Woodpecker were in attendance along with some of the usual suspects for a total of 29 species. There were a few 'normal' birds that we were surprised were missing -- possibly due to the presence of the Merlin, a Red-Tailed Hawk and 2 Red-Shouldered Hawks. We hope to run this trip again!
